HOLLY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Holly Springs Police Officer Shane Ladner and his wife Meg were among those on a wounded veterans parade float that was hit by a train in Texas last week. Four people were killed and more than a dozen were hurt, including the Ladners.
When they arrive home in Holly Springs, they will be met by what is fast becoming as traditional as Georgia hospitality -- Georgia generosity.

It's a community that cares about its neighbors and those in need. And top corporations are no exception.
It didn't take long for home improvement giant Home Depot to answer the Help Desk's call.
Their involvement with veterans is well known, and when we mentioned that Shane Ladner had served in Iraq, the response was instantaneous.

Doctors had to amputate one of Meg Ladner's legs after the crash. When she and her husband come home, one of the first things she will need is a ramp to have easy access in and out of the house.
Home Depot and its well known Volunteer Force will make that happen.
Then, inside house adjustments will have to be made to make everything accessible.
Again, Home Depot will make that happen.
But that's not all.
We plan to meet with the Ladner's as soon as they are settled back in Holly Springs and see what else they may need.
One thing is for sure -- they will need a van, equipped so Meg Ladner has easy access.
The Help Desk has already started work on that one.
With the help of a leading auto dealer in Rome, Ga. that is our first priority.
