Water main break shuts down section of Clairmont Road

DeKalb County, GA-  Traffic is moving again, albeit slowly, on a section of Clairmont Road near the DeKalb Peachtree Airport.

Over the weekend, a 1/4 mile section of the street was closed after a water main rupture in a 36" pipe.

The pipe was repaired on Sunday and this morning, two lanes were open to traffic, one in each direction. Later today, paving crews are expected to arrive on scene to begin covering the repair with asphalt. 

DeKalb County is in the midst of a $1.35 billion water/sewer upgrade and Brennan said that this main was on the list to be replaced sometime within the next five years.

Brennan added that there was no construction in the area and because it is relatively warm for this time of year the water main likely gave out due to age.
