Man on the run since 1997 arrested in Bartow County

EUHARLEE, Ga. -- A man wanted in Massachusetts for nearly two decades was arrested in Bartow County Monday morning.

Phillip Andrew Lewis was taken into custody at around 6:20 a.m.

The 43-year-old suspect was wanted in Springfield, Mass., for raping a child, according to Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force Commander Mark Mayton. A warrant for his arrest was first issued in 1997.

Lewis was arrested at a house on Campfire Trail in Euharlee and was taken to the Bartow County Jail pending his extradition to Massachusetts.

U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on Lewis after his arrest.
